The Puerto Plata Cable Car, a tourist attraction on the Isabel de Torres hill in that province, will be taken out of service, “to begin a process of complete change of the entire system that includes the current one.”
This was reported this Thursday by the Puerto Plata Cable Car Board, which explained that it took the measure for everyone’s safety, after “receiving the updated technical studies on the conditions of our cable car and having shared them with the authorities of the Central Government.” .
“Both the Board of Trustees and the Dominican Government seek with the construction and installation of this new cable car to guarantee an operation with the highest standards of quality and safety that the times demand, protecting the integrity of all Dominicans and foreigners,” the board said in a statement.
The Puerto Plata cable car underwent extensive maintenance after people were suspended in the air for several hours and had to be rescued by external and specialized teams, which included lowering them via ropes in the air.
After the accident he was taken out of service for 10 months. One of the main jobs that was carried out was changing the pulleys. Upon returning to operation, it was taken out of service on other occasions for maintenance purposes.
This cable car was built in 1975 during one of the administrations of the late former president Joaquín Balaguer. It has been in existence for 49 years, which is why it is considered a heritage and symbol of Puerto Plata. It is one of the largest tourist attractions in the region and the country
“The Dominican Government is committed to making this emblematic cable car a tourist attraction that adds more value to the destination, also including the Isabel de Torres hill,” the board stated in the statement.
The board promised that it will keep the population informed “during the process of readjusting this heritage” and that it will also seek to “cause the least impact for all the companies and families that rely on this operation.” He said that he will be holding meetings with all actors linked to the sector.
FOR THIS REASON OUR CABLE CAR TOUR IS NOT FOR SALE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
